As part of Suicide Prevention Week, Alvin L. Young Nazarene High School dedicated time to raising awareness about mental health and the importance of supporting one another. The session was led by Nurse Hill and a colleague, who presented on the topic “Suicide Risk Guidelines.” Their goal was to educate students on recognizing warning signs, understanding available resources, and learning how to provide support to those who may be struggling.
The presentation emphasized that mental health is just as important as physical health, and that no one should ever feel ashamed to reach out for help. Students were reminded of the importance of empathy, kindness, and speaking up when they or someone they know might be at risk. The session encouraged open conversations about a difficult topic, empowering students with practical knowledge and reassuring them that support systems are always available within the school community.
